Hi, I’m Aixa and I’m a mother of six, a writer, illustrator, translator, sensitivity reader and university professor. I was born in the beautiful city of Buenos Aires, Argentina and grew up between there and my adopted city of snowy Buffalo, New York. My kidlit career is focused on writing and illustrating books for young readers, while my academic career is focused on diversity, multilingualism, belonging, and equitable teaching for linguistic and cultural minority students. I’ve lived in several different countries and draw inspiration for my stories and illustrations from all of the diverse locations I’ve called home.

My passion is writing and illustrating books aimed at giving all children a chance to see their multilayered and intersectional identities represented through stories that resonate with heart and humor while engendering a sense of belonging and connectedness. I write in Español and English, and enjoy mixing languages in my prose. I also love illustrating by employing different techniques including watercolor, acrylic, ink, and fabric, and combining all of these elements through digital and traditional collage.

As a former homeschool/unschool mom and parent educator, I have a page on my website reserved for those interested in home education through critical and creative thinking. Please check out the Teaching Resources / Thinking Cafe page if that’s you!
